The Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance is holding a free forum with The Street on Wednesday June 27th at The Street Theatre in City West. There are three parts to the forum with All Things Equity being relevant to actors of the stage and screen. The Independent Theatre forum is of particular relevance to theatre makers. The last session of the day is relevant to both theatre and film makers.

All Things Equity 12pm-2pm
Discussion of all things Equity, including the Make it Australian Campaign, combatting sexual harassment, bullying, and misconduct in live performance, and what the ACTU’s Change The Rules campaign means for actors. Forum open to participants to talk about – what’s it like being a performer in the ACT, and how can being union enhance your life and career?

Independent Theatre Forum 2:30pm-4pm
What is independent theatre? Why do we do it? How can we help independent theatre in the ACT thrive while keeping it fair and sustainable? Led by MEAA Equity Organiser Erica Lovell up for discussion is the Equity Independent Theatre Committee’s new Independent Theatre Best Practice Guide and how it can support a better independent sector.

A Diverse Industry 4:30pm-6pm
Looking at access and representation for diverse artists, what role the Equity Diversity Committee and the wider union plays in supporting a diverse industry, and what you can do as theatre and film makers to support an authentic representation of Australia in your projects. The forum will be run by Francisco Lopez from the Equity Diversity Committee.
