Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres is excited to announce our next winter art party, Canberra Obscura: Metropolis .

Escape the weight of a long winter, and immerse yourself in our art playground. With drinks to warm you and food to fill you, Canberra Obscura: Metropolis is a night of enthralling performance and emphatic beats, experimentation and the unexpected.

Continuing on from 2016’s wildly successful Canberra Obscura party, Canberra Obscura: Metropolis is a counter-weight, a fine balance. An exploration of where the tipping point reverberates, and a delicate magnetic push and pull.

Dancers, visual artists, musicians and a poet will come together as part of the Australian Dance Party’s CO.LAB group to present a multi-arts improvisation experiment, while local writer Rosanna Stevens will entertain audiences with live storytelling and comedy. Displaying stunning feats of strength, burlesque star and strong woman, Penelope Asterisk, will challenge your perceptions, dazzle you with sequins and, quite possibly, get you bent into shape.

Also performing will be prominent Canberra band Moaning Lisa; Sebastian Field, frontman of Cracked Actor now playing atmospheric solo sets; and DJ Coolio Desgracias, who will spin a selection of dance-worthy electro synth pop on vinyl.

Making sure no one goes hungry or thirsty will be food stalls from Mr Papa and Canberra Magic Kitchen, beer by PACT, and specially created cocktails from Mint Garden Bar.
