Rebus are providing free professional development inclusion training for staff, volunteers, and members of ACT based community organisations, using theatre as a training tool. Rebus is a not-for-profit theatre and workplace training organisation made up of people with and without disabilities. Their training sessions are fun, interactive and thought provoking.
Rebus received funding through the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Information, Linkages and Capacity Building program, to provide a free professional development inclusion training program for staff and volunteers of community organisations in the ACT. By ‘community organisations’ Rebus means everything from completely informal groups like book clubs, through to sporting organisations, arts and cultural organisations, faith groups, and large funded organisations like Belconnen Community Service or Woden Community Service.
In consultation with local community members, Rebus has developed interactive experiential training sessions using the model of Forum Theatre, with a cast entirely consisting of people with disabilities. This training will look at where things can go wrong when people with disabilities want to join, participate in or use the services of community organisations, and allow audiences to work together to find solutions.
Rebus is offering ten of these free training sessions throughout March 2018 with one daytime session, and one after-hours session, in five locations across Canberra including Tuggeranong, Woden, City, Belconnen and Gungahlin. In order to facilitate community discussion around improving accessibility, people with disabilities, and the volunteers, staff, or members of community groups and organisations are all invited to attend.
