There are lots of ways to keep your kids entertained these school holidays with programs at local arts organisations.
Canberra Youth Theatre
Winter Holiday Workshop
Where: Gorman Arts Centre, C Block
When: Monday 16 July - Friday 20 July, 9am - 3pm each day
Bringing together a group of up to 16 young people in the winter school holidays, our wonderful tutor will use drama games and exercises across a fun five-day program to buil and develop skills in theatre. Catering for ages 7-12 years, our holiday programs are designed to build confidence and fundamental skills in voice, movement, character and story. Throughout the week, the young artists will work with their tutor to create a 10-15 minute theatre piece to perform at the end of the week for family and friends, implementing the skills learnt over the five days.

Musical Theatre Intensive
Where: Gorman Arts Centre
When: Monday 9 July - Wednesday 11 July, 10am - 4pm each day
The Musical Theatre Intensive aims to challenge stereotypical thinking around the craft of musical theatre. Artists will work individually and in an ensemble, experimenting with interpretation and meaning to perform songs in context, with honesty and heart. The tutor will guide participants to find truth in their music and the intention behind the work. Rigour in musicality will be encouraged, along with best practice vocally and physically.

Canberra Potters Society
Fun with Clay
When: 9am - 12pm, 9 and 10 July, 16 and 17 July
Suitable for 5 years and older, over two 3-hour sessions experienced teachers will help children to explore some of the possibilities of working with clay. The program is designed for family groups to enrol but unaccompanied children are also welcome.
When: 9am-4pm, Wednesday 18 July
Suitable for 7 years and older, participants can have a go on the potter's wheel, make a platter or clay creature, or decorate and refine pots. Adult carers can also enrol.
Working on the wheel
When: 9am-12pm, 19 and 20 July
Suitable for beginners and continuing students, participants will spend two mornings on the potter's wheel, designing, refining, and decorating their own creations. Suitable for 8 years and older.
Wheel intensive (youth)
When: 12 and 13 July
Suitable for 10 years and older, the two day workshop will concentrate on throwing, trimming and decorating work.
Kids Digital Photography Workshop
When: 10 and 11, 17 and 18, 19 and 20 July (two day workshops)
Kids will learn to explore their world and get creative with digital photography. Guided by experienced tutors, workshops include short field trips to capture images, followed by computer based workshops. Suitable for 10-16 year olds.
Kids Darkroom Workshop
When: 12-13 July
Kids will gain a basic and practical understanding of black and white darkroom processes and pinhole photography. Suitable for 12-16 year olds.

Tuggeranong Arts Centre
Latex Art Workshop with Kamahi Djordon King
When: 11am-2pm Tuesday 17 July
Cost: free, but RSVP essential
Join multi-talented artist and Gurindji man Kamahi Djordon King for a special visual arts workshop using latex.
Devising Theatre with Katie Beckett
When: 12:30-2:30pm Tuesday 17 July
Cost: Free but RSVP essential
In this workshop Katie will use drama games, performance and writing activities to explore ways you can use your own stories to devise a piece of theatre. This workshop is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 7+ and their families.
When: 9-13 July and 16-20 July
Where: Chifley and Kaleen
Cost: $190 - $350
Programs for 5-7 year old and 8-12 year old children both week of the holidays. The programs cater for first timers and experienced circus performers. Participants can learn a range of different skills including tumbling, unicycling, hula hopping, juggling, and the basics of aerial disciplines such as tissu and trapeze.

Young Music Society

Cost: $375 +GST
The Young Music Society’s Wild Strings program is designed to open cross genre possibilities for young string players of violin, viola, cello and double bass who have been playing their instruments for more than 3 years and are between the age of 10 and 21. Led by master musicians Chris Stone and Holly Downes.

The Young Music Society’s Winter Music School offers a holiday package of educational and entertaining musical fun during the school holidays. Leading music teacher Lisa Gill heads a team of professionals including percussionist Alex Wanjura and multi-skilled musician Jim Sharrock.
