ACT Chief Minister and Minister for the Arts Mr Jon Stanhope MLA launched Poetry in ACTION 2008 on Tuesday, 8 July at 11am at the Civic Square bus-stop. Now in its third year, Poetry in ACTION is one of the most broad-reaching poetry initiatives in Canberra, taking poetry to about 10,000 bus commuters per day over the next 12 months. Poetry in ACTION celebrates the work of local poets, promotes the ACT Poetry Prize and makes riding public transport a more enriching and pleasurable experience. ACT poets, who were long-listed applicants to the 2007 ACT Poetry Prize’s David Campbell Prize, were commissioned to write poetry for display in the interiors of ACTION buses.
The poets whose work is being featured are Monica Carroll, Miranda Lello, Danijela Kambaskovic-Sawers and Maggie Shapley. All of the commissioned poems, including poems by Paul Cliff, S.K Kelen, Lesley Lebkowicz, Paul Magee and Lizz Murphy can be viewed by clicking on the links below.
