Policy, Programs and Initiatives

The arts and creativity have an important role in underpinning broader social and economic objectives. One of the ways that artsACT helps to enourage this is through its policies, projects and initiatives.

These activities are often undertaken in collaboration with other arts organisations or government agencies. This section is an overview of some of these projects and initiatives which include:

  • The ACT Cultural Council provides strategic arts policy advice to the ACT Government on arts issues
  • The ACT Public Art Program - public art engages and inspires our community, as well as enhancing our physical environment
  • The ANU Community Outreach Program - the Community Outreach program supports a range of arts programs through the ANU School of Music and School of Art for access by the ACT community
  • The ACT Artists-in-Residence Program - artsACT received funding in the 2011-12 Budget to progress the creation of an Artists-in-Residence Program for the ACT
  • The ACT Artists-in-Schools Program - the Artists-in-Schools Program is a Creative Education Partnership initiative of the Australia Council for the Arts, in partnership with artsACT and the ACT Department of Education and Training

  • Development of the Kingston Arts Precinct Strategy - funding was provided to artsACT in the 2010-11 Budget to develop a Kingston Arts precinct Strategy, which was released in July 2011
  • Poetry in ACTION - Poetry in ACTION is a joint initiative between artsACT and ACTION buses, featuring the work of local poets
