Jan Brown has had a long love affair with Canberra’s currawongs. These intelligent and somewhat ungainly birds are a distinctive feature of our suburbs; loved for their beautiful song and feared for their sharp eye.The sculpture is an exploration of the angles and awkward power so much a feature of the adolescent bird at rest. The powerful muscles of the legs and back tie the form to an awkward pedestrian existence. In flight gravity is transcended, dissolving into aerobatic grace and avian artistry.
An acquisition of the Legislative Assembly Art Advisory Committee 2003.
