90% of people in the ACT attended cultural venues and events in the 12 months prior to interview in 2005–06. The ACT had higher attendance rates at each of the selected cultural venues and events than the national average.

96% of young people (15–24 years) in the ACT attended a cultural venue or event in 12 months prior to interview in 2005–06.

In the 12 months prior to April 2009, 79% of ACT children aged 5–14 years attended a public library, gallery, museum or performing arts event at least once outside of school hours.

46% of people in the ACT aged 5 years and over with a disability visited a museum or art gallery at least once in the 12 months prior to interview in 2003.

Many people in the ACT participated in cultural activities as a hobby only in 12 months prior to April 2007; 46,600 in art and craft, 5,600 in writing and 6,900 in music.

Over one third (36%) of children in ACT were involved in cultural activities outside of school hours, including playing musical instruments, singing, dancing and drama in the 12 months to April 2009.

6,400 people in ACT undertook volunteer work in an arts or heritage organisation during 2006, equating to 2.6% of the total population.

30% of all people aged 15 years and over living in the ACT undertook some paid or unpaid work in culture and leisure activities in the 12 months prior to interview in April 2007, totalling 76,500 people. Of these, 34% received payment for their work.

7,148 people in the ACT had a cultural occupation as their main job in the week prior to the 2006 Census.

Almost one half (46%) of Indigenous people living in the ACT participated in at least one Indigenous creative arts activity.

ACT households spent $332 million on arts and culture, averaging $49.52 a week in 2003–04.

The ACT television services industry had an income of $28 million in 2006–07.

ACT performing arts organisations staged 977 paid performances which generated 286,600 paid admissions in 2006–07.
