Gorman Arts Centre


Gorman Arts Centre is a significant heritage complex that has been adapted for arts use. It is occupied by some of the ACT's leading arts organisations, smaller arts groups and individual artists.

The Centre offers intimate performance spaces, dance studios and workshops, a gallery, artists' studios, small offices for arts organisations and meeting rooms. The Centre supports a range of innovative and accessible arts activities and is a short walk to Civic.

Main Hall

Built in the 1920s, the Gorman Main Hall is at the heart of Gorman Arts Centre, overlooking a courtyard on each side, with magnificent Hawthorn trees.

Ralph Wilson Theatre

A black box theatre suitable for performances, lectures, conferences and screenings. It has a dressing room, storage room and separate bar and foyer for welcoming people to your event. There is also a projector and screen for film or visual art screenings.

C Block Theatre

A black box theatre suitable for performances, lectures and conferences. It has a separate foyer with an optional bar.

F Block Hall

A large, versatile, dividable space boasting high ceilings and exposed beams. The venue was previously used as an art gallery, so all windows have been covered creating a white box space suitable for a variety of purposes.

E Seminar Room

Ideal for small meetings, training sessions and workshops, seating up to 16 people around a large table. This private room features an in-built projector with audio-visual facilities and a shared kitchen.

Courtyards

Two internal courtyards that are beautiful garden spaces, each with a magnificent Hawthorn three at the centre.

Forecourts

Two small forecourts available for hire on the North side of the centre, facing Batman Street.

Coworking Spaces

Supported office accommodation for organisations and individuals who wish to work in and contribute to our vibrant and collaborative creative hubs.

Ainslie Art Centre and Gorman Arts Centres are managed by a not for profit public company limited by guarantee, Arts Capital Limited, under head licence from the ACT Government. Arts Capital provides services to resident artists and arts organisations and promotes the activities of the arts centres.

Gorman House was constructed in the 1920's as a hostel for government workers and is highly valued by the local community for its link with this early stage in Canberra's development. It is listed on the ACT Heritage Places Register.
