The Former Transport Depot, located in the Kingston Arts Precinct, is the home of the Old Bus Depot Markets The Former Transport Depot is of heritage significance, as the engineering and construction of the 1940-41 fully welded rigid portal frame exhibits a high degree of technical achievement and design quality, demonstrating new invention and application in Australia at the time. Major Infrastructure Upgrades The ACT Government is investing just over $6.5 million to complete major infrastructure upgrades at the Former Transport Depot (FTD) in Kingston. Work is scheduled to commence on site on 12 June 2020 and continue through to the first half of 2021. The work to the FTD will be completed by Monarch Building Solutions and will include:
The project will substantially improve the amenity of the FTD for stall holders and visitors to the Old Bus Depot Markets, and the project will also enable use of toilets within the FTD for hirers of the Fitters’ Workshop. Works will not impact on the post COVID -19 re-opening of the Old Bus Depot Markets The ACT Government is keeping local residents, anticipated to be most impacted by works, directly informed of FTD works. The upgrade of the FTD is separate from, but complimentary to the Kingston Arts Precinct (KAP) project, which is currently underway and progressing through the planning phase. The KAP is the final piece in the development of the Kingston Foreshore and its realisation will establish the area around the Kingston Powerhouse, Fitters' Workshop and FTD as a major arts hub and community precinct. | |
